Tibetan Monks at Bastyr University

Tibetan monks from the Drepung Loseling Monastery in India spent four days on the Bastyr University campus to create - and destroy - a sacred sand mandala, a spiritual exercise that honors impermanence.

We documented this event through our photographs, from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony. Images showing the various stages as the monks were creating the sacred sand mandala can be found at the link below.

This is truly an amazing event to witness. It was an honor to meet the monks and to watch them perform their ceremonies, and to witness the creation, and destruction, of the sacred sand mandala.
