Pike Place Market, Seattle WA

The Pike Place Market in Seattle celebrated it's 100th year anniversary on August 17, 2007. The market is the longest running farmers market in the country. It is always a pleasure to visit, and there is so much to do and see. Sometimes we drop by just to pick up the best local, fresh produce for dinner. Other times we'll enjoy lunch or dinner after a day of exploring downtown Seattle or the waterfront. And other times, we can easily spend the entire day exploring the many shops and vendors at the market.

Here are a few shots taken during the 100th Annivesary...

Mt. Rainier

We spent a few days at Sunrise on Mt. Rainier to see the summer wildflowers. A good mix of wildflowers, but it does seem that the lupine are a bit more scarce this year. The sun didn't cooperate, as we were hoping to get shots of Rainier during the sunrise. So, another trip is in the works...

This is the cloud cover we had for most of the day (the actual mountain stayed in hiding...)
But, it got much worse overnight and the next morning. Nothing but fog in the morning. So, no sunrise at Sunrise...
Then the sun came out again, and we were able to get some shots of the wildflowers...

Stevens Pass

A trip up to Stevens Pass to see the wildflowers, with a stop at Deception Falls. Two roads off of Stevens Pass, Beckler River road and Foss River road, lead to areas with great views, and if you continue long enough (and high enough...) you will see a lot of wildflowers.

An example of some of the wildflowers...A bee doing what bees do...Deception Falls on Stevens Pass hwy...The view from the end of an old logging road off of Beckler River road...

Woodland Park Zoo

Our first trip to Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle this year. We decided to go on a weekday to avoid the large crowds...but that didn't work out like we planned. It was still a nice trip, and the weather was perfect. A lot of time was spent at the Raptor Show. It was just incredible watching those magnificent birds performing, and the falcons are sooo fast! Here are a couple sample shots...

The butterfly exhibit opened that day also, so we spent a lot time there too. There is a huge variety of butterflies, and we tried to see them all! Here are a few examples...

Of course, no trip to the zoo can be complete without lions or tigers or bears!

Olympic Peninsula Photo Trip

We made our annual summer trip to the Olympic Peninsula in July. The weather wasn't the best this year, but the clouds did break on occassion. But, we made the most of it, and enjoyed the trip as usual. There is so much to see and do on the peninsula and we never have enough time...

This trip included stops in the Hoh Rain Forest, Lake Crescent, and Hurricane Ridge. We saw many deer at all three locations, and a few elk in the rain forest.

Arlington Fly-in Air Show

We were able to attend the Arlington Fly-in this year, and are really glad we did! It was a great summer day, and the show was great. We posted some photos of the event here: Arlington Air Show. We will definitely try to attend again next year.
